Anthony's Substack by The Scribble's Echo
Okay, I’m a huge fan of Anthony. He shares his life story through his creativity, especially in his series called The Chronicles of Otterion, which I absolutely love. The images and creativity he uses to bring them to life never fail to amaze me, it's incredible how talented someone can be. His storytelling is also captivating, so you’ll never get bored. Not everyone can showcase their creativity in a way that draws others in and leaves them wanting more, but that’s where Anthony shines. He truly deserves way more attention for his work.
We seem to be seeing less creativity these days, and when someone does showcase their skill, we often overlook it. So, you have to subscribe to him. You won’t regret it. His Substack is a breath of fresh air.
Start with this;
elusive nostalgia by daphne
I only recently discovered this gem of a person when she restacked one of my posts. She’s been one of my favorite writers ever since. Every piece she writes deeply resonates with me, but it's the way she writes—the flow, the rich words, the metaphors that makes her stand out the most for me. I’m a sucker for people who write in a “poetic” way, if you know what I mean. That’s exactly what Daphne’s writing is. And I’m not even hyping this up for no reason. Check it out for yourself;
the english geek by Chris Yadav
The first post I read from him was titled “Who the Fuck Are Humans” and it was truly eye-opening!! I love philosophical and deep topics, so I was excited to read someone else's thoughts that aligned with mine on such rarely discussed subjects. But it’s not just that—everything else in his "The Idiot with a Pen” series is worth reading, as all of it is thought-provoking in its own way. I'm a huge fan of making our brains work through thinking, and if you're like me, you should definitely check out his publication;
Jo's Scribbles by Jo Frick
Jo has everything you need—thought-provoking pieces, poems, you name it. Personally, I enjoy Jo's essays which are usually on interesting, less popular topics. Jo has so many takes that I agree with, so I’ll never stop recommending. But the prose piece called “The Orange” is one of the best things I’ve read on this platform, so you have to check it out!
You can start with this one (a relatable piece);
No Money Memoirs by Colin Mortemore
Seriously, this is one of the most refreshing publications I’ve subscribed to. The vibe is super chill and he’s funny too, so his pieces are always a fun read (which we need more of because people are way too serious these days). But the best thing about this publication is how he keeps that laid-back, chill vibe while still conveying the message perfectly. That’s a real talent—to write without being too serious while still staying on point. He also writes poems, and you should definitely check them out!
He recently posted a very vulnerable piece that earned my respect for bravely speaking out on such an important topic! If you haven’t read it yet, what are you doing?!;
moonstruck musings by maya
She introduced me to Odysseus and Mitski, and I really should thank her for that. She’s the sweetest, kindest person on this app and deserves way more attention than she gets. I love the little emojis she adds to her post titles and each of her pieces is so well-researched and written. I’ve learned so much and discovered new words from her writing. She also writes poems now and then which are absolutely jaw dropping—because I couldn’t write a poem even if I tried!!! So, anyone who can write poems that touch my heart is the best, including Maya. You should definitely check out one of her most popular pieces;
essays from the heart; and other things by Edgard Portela
The consistency of posting is what drew me into this publication. They're such a fun person, and they post regularly—definitely a huge win!! Personally, I've learned so much about Puerto Rico, a country I knew very little about before. Another reason I highly recommend their publication is how they use their platform to address important issues, speaking out on things that truly matter. I admire that so much, and it’s made me realize what my own publication might be lacking. Plus, I’m absolutely in love with their advice column, it feels like talking to an older sibling. Definitely check out their publication, you won’t regret it. Start here;
Allegory Landing with Emma Nelson by Emma Nelson
If you're looking to start freelance writing (not the typical kind), she has all the tips and tricks you need—and trust me, they aren’t boring. Also, her short stories are super interesting. It’s a great combo!! I get such positive energy from her publication, which is why I keep up with it. Emma has become my go-to writer when I want to learn something new or just enjoy some light reading. She’s underrated, so you should definitely check her out;
REMAINS OF OBSCURITY by Shay B. Keats
I think I've known Shay since the beginning of my Substack journey, and she has been the nicest person ever since. On top of that, her pieces always stand out to me. They’re so unique and well-researched, which makes them compelling to read every time. She doesn’t post often, but when she does, the quality speaks for itself. You should definitely have her work in your inbox. Here’s one of my favorites from her publication;
Ricky’s Substack by Ricky Cano
This publication is totally underrated. Here, you can find short nonfiction and fiction stories, poems, essays, and the occasional article. He’s a self-published author with a book titled ‘Baseball & A Girl’, which I haven’t read yet, but you should definitely check it out because the sneak peek he posted is amazing;
ps: Definitely check out their posts first before subscribing. Each one is incredibly talented and deserving. You might just find them too good to miss! Thank me later <3
There is a trust in you which makes me want to read from all of these publications. Thank you for sharing, Janu!
THANK YOU JANU THIS MEANS SO MUCH TO ME 🫶🫶🫶😭
